Home services — HVAC, plumbing, electrical, renovation

You’re on a job. Your phone still gets answered.

Middlesurf’s AI receptionist answers every call, books the job, flags emergencies for your on-call tech and follows up on your quotes — so the next call doesn’t go to the company down the road.

An HVAC technician repairs a furnace in a home basement, his phone on the floor beside his tool bag.

On the job

Every missed call is a job someone else gets.

You’re in a crawl space, on a ladder or in a customer’s basement. The phone buzzes in your pocket and you can’t pick up. By the time you call back, they’ve booked whoever answered first.

It gets worse when you’re busiest: the first cold snap, the first heat wave, the spring thaw. And every quote you sent last week is still waiting for a follow-up nobody has had time to make.

What it handles

What your AI receptionist handles

Answers, qualifies and books the job.

The agent asks what’s wrong, where the job is and how soon they need someone, then books the visit into your schedule and texts a confirmation.

Flags the emergencies.

No heat in January, water coming through the ceiling, a burning smell from the panel. The agent follows your emergency rules: pages your on-call tech, transfers the call, or gives the caller your safety instructions. Routine calls wait for the morning.

Texts back every missed call.

If a call slips through, the caller gets a text within seconds with a link to book or a promise of a call back. Nobody hangs up and moves on.

Follows up on quotes.

Two days after a quote goes out, the customer gets a friendly check-in and a way to book. Your team sees who replied. Outbound calls and texts follow CASL and CRTC rules — we build consent, opt-outs and Do Not Call handling in.

Books the seasonal work.

Furnace tune-ups in the fall, AC checks in the spring. Past customers get a reminder and can book on the spot. When the job’s done, the agent asks every customer for a review.

Integrations

Fits the way you already work

  • Keep your business number and carrier. Forward calls to us: your phone rings first if you want, then the AI picks up.
  • Bookings go into the scheduling or field-service software you already use, or a shared Google or Outlook calendar. We build that connection for you.
  • Every call summarized and texted or emailed to the owner or dispatcher.
  • Need a proper phone system for the office and the trucks? We set up the IP PBX and can port your numbers to it.
  • Want the AI in your techs’ pockets? We build AI apps that show today’s jobs and call summaries, and fill in the work order from a photo of the unit. AI apps

Privacy

Your customers’ details stay private.

Your calls are full of details people don’t share lightly: home addresses, when the house will be empty, alarm and lockbox codes.

  • Stored in Canada. Recordings, transcripts and summaries are kept on Middlesurf’s own servers in Canada.

  • In writing. We tell you which AI services handle your calls and where everything is stored.

  • You set retention. You choose how long recordings are kept.

  • Access codes kept out. Alarm and lockbox codes can be left out of summaries and texts.

  • Built for the rules. Designed to support PIPEDA obligations; outbound follow-ups built for CASL and CRTC rules.

Sample use case: transcript of a call
  1. AI receptionist

Thanks for calling. You’re speaking with the company’s AI assistant. What can we help with?

  2. Caller

Our furnace stopped working and it’s freezing in here.

  3. AI receptionist

Sorry to hear that. Is anyone in the home elderly, very young or unwell, and do you smell gas?

  4. Caller

No gas smell. Just me and the kids.

  5. AI receptionist

Thanks. I’m marking this as urgent and alerting our on-call technician now. What’s the address?

  6. Caller

    (Gives the address.)

  7. AI receptionist

Got it. Our technician will call you back shortly to confirm a time tonight. I’ll text you a confirmation now. If you do smell gas, leave the house and call your gas utility’s emergency line or 911.

FAQ

Questions contractors ask

Will it sound like a robot?
No. It uses a natural voice, speaks in plain language and introduces itself as your AI assistant. Call our main line and hear our own AI assistant before you decide.
Can it give prices?
It can share whatever you approve — service call fees, standard rates, “estimates are free.” For anything else, it books an estimate.
What if a caller insists on talking to me?
It transfers the call to you or your dispatcher during your hours, or takes a detailed message and texts it to you right away.
I’m a one-person shop. Is this overkill?
When you’re the only one on the tools, there’s nobody else to pick up — that’s exactly when it helps. The setup scales from one truck to many.
What if the caller doesn’t speak English?
The agent detects the caller’s language and answers in it — English, French and many other languages — and switches mid-call if the caller does.
Can it handle a rush, like the first cold snap?
Yes. It answers several calls at once, so nobody gets a busy signal.
What does it cost?
It depends on call volume and integrations. We give you a written quote after Discover.
